Professional experience. Personal understanding.
Behind Laver Accord are people who understand care from both sides. Our experience spans many years working as carers, managers and senior leaders across care and charitable services. We have delivered hands-on support, led teams and taken responsibility for the quality of services people depend on.
We also know what it means to be the family member. We have supported our own loved ones at home and within care services, navigated difficult decisions and fought to secure the support they needed. We understand the worry, frustration and exhaustion that can come with trying to get someone to listen—and how much it matters when someone does.
These experiences shape the way we work. We listen carefully, take concerns seriously and bring practical knowledge to situations that can feel overwhelming. Whether we are supporting a family or helping a service improve, our commitment is the same: to help people be heard, treated with dignity and supported with care that meets their needs.
Independent Expertise. Better Outcomes.
Laver Accord is an independent consultancy providing experienced advisory, operational and interim leadership support across care, health, charitable and community services. Our work is grounded in senior-level experience of leading complex services, managing organisational change, strengthening governance and quality, and responding to situations where clear judgement and decisive action are required.
We bring together strategic perspective and practical operational understanding. Our background includes executive and senior management responsibility, service improvement, safeguarding, regulatory compliance, organisational restructuring, stakeholder engagement and the leadership of multidisciplinary teams. This breadth of experience enables us to understand both the immediate pressures facing an organisation and the wider systems, risks and relationships that influence sustainable improvement.
Our approach is independent, measured and outcomes-focused. We work alongside organisations, individuals and families to bring clarity to complex situations, strengthen decision-making and support meaningful improvement. Every engagement is tailored to the circumstances, with a focus on proportionate solutions, professional integrity and better outcomes for the people who depend on high-quality care and support.
“My journey in care began more than 30 years ago, when I volunteered before going to university. Since then, I have had the privilege of supporting people directly as a carer, manager and senior leader across a wide range of care and support services.
The most important lessons I have learned, however, have come from the people I have supported.
Trevor taught me that a person is never defined by dementia. He was defined by the football club he loved, by the wife he had lost, by his years working at KFC and, above all, by the enormous pride he had in his daughters. Dementia meant that he sometimes had to begin getting ready at four o’clock in the morning simply to catch the 9am bus, but what stayed with me was his determination to continue living his life and being part of the world around him.
Carly taught me something different. She communicated through touch and facial expression and had a life that was far too short, yet her impact has lasted for decades. It is around 30 years since I had the privilege of supporting Carly and her family, and I still think about her today. She taught me that communication, connection and human value have nothing to do with how many words someone can speak.
And Margaret reminds me why good care matters at the most vulnerable moments of our lives. At three o’clock in the morning, frightened and approaching the end of her life, what she needed most was to know that she was safe. The care professionals with her were not her family, but they treated her with the compassion and dignity we would all want for someone we love. She was safe in their care, and she was not alone.
Those experiences have stayed with me throughout my career.
They have taught me that people should be seen through the fog of illness, disability, age or circumstance. Their lives, relationships, achievements, hopes and choices matter. Care should enable people to continue being themselves, not reduce them to a diagnosis, a placement or a list of needs.
They have also taught me how important it is to support the people providing that care. Care professionals do extraordinary work, often during the most difficult moments in another person's life. They deserve good leadership, clear standards, practical support and organisations that value the responsibility they carry.
Laver Accord grew from those beliefs.
Whether we are supporting a family who is worried about the care of someone they love, helping someone move from a service that is no longer right for them, or working alongside a care organisation facing operational or quality challenges, our starting point is the same: the person matters.
Our loved ones deserve the best possible care, and the people entrusted with providing that care deserve the best possible support.
After more than 30 years, that remains the principle that guides me.”

The meaning behind Laver Accord
The name Laver Accord reflects the idea of connection, transition and finding a way forward. The name Laver, found historically in Essex place names, is associated with a crossing place or ford — a point where people could move safely from one side to another.
That idea of crossing is central to what Laver Accord represents. We help individuals, families and organisations move through difficult, uncertain or complex situations by bringing clarity, practical support and experienced guidance.
Accord represents agreement, understanding and constructive relationships. Together, the name reflects our purpose: bridging gaps, helping people move forward and strengthening care through collaboration and practical action.
