Where agreed and appropriate, we may also be able to attend meetings alongside you.

Reviewing responses

Helping you understand the response you receive, what has been addressed, what remains unresolved and what reasonable next steps may be available.

Managing complex complaints

Where a situation has become particularly difficult or time-consuming, we can provide more extensive support to help coordinate the complaint process and maintain a clear record of issues, correspondence, actions and outcomes.

A clear way forward

Every situation is different, but our approach is straightforward.

Listen

We begin by understanding what has happened, what is concerning you and what outcome you would like to achieve.

Clarify

We help organise the information, identify the central issues and distinguish between what is known, what needs clarification and what remains unresolved.

Plan

Together, we agree the most appropriate next steps and the level of support you need.

Act

This may involve preparing correspondence, helping you raise concerns, supporting meetings or helping manage a more complex complaint.

Review

We help you consider the response and determine whether the concerns have been appropriately addressed or whether further action should be considered.

Independent support, not another voice in the argument

Our purpose is not to escalate conflict unnecessarily.

Sometimes concerns arise because communication has broken down. Sometimes expectations have not been clear. In other situations there may be significant questions about the quality, safety or appropriateness of care.

We approach each situation independently and objectively.

That means helping you raise legitimate concerns clearly and confidently while also looking for practical solutions wherever possible.

The aim is not simply to make a complaint.

It is to help you understand what has happened, ensure important concerns are heard and find the clearest route forward.

Support grounded in care experience

Laver Accord brings experience from across care services, including frontline care, management and senior operational leadership.

That experience provides an understanding of both sides of difficult situations: the experience of individuals and families trying to obtain answers, and the responsibilities placed upon care providers when concerns are raised.

It allows us to ask informed questions, understand care terminology and processes, and help focus attention on the issues that matter.

When might this service help?

You may find our support helpful when:

  • you have concerns about the quality of someone's care;

  • previous concerns have not been resolved;

  • communication with a care provider has become difficult;

  • you are unsure how to make a formal complaint;

  • you have received a response but do not feel your concerns have been answered;

  • there are several issues, organisations or professionals involved;

  • you are preparing for an important meeting;

  • you feel overwhelmed by the amount of information or correspondence;

  • you want an experienced independent person to help you understand your options.

You do not need to wait until a situation has become a formal dispute before speaking to us.

Sometimes early independent support can help bring clarity before positions become entrenched. Talk to us about what is happening.

What happens first?

The first conversation is an opportunity to explain what has happened and what you would like help with.

We will listen to the circumstances, discuss the issues you are facing and consider whether Laver Accord is the right service to support you.

Where we believe we can help, we will explain:

  • the support we recommend;

  • what we would need from you;

  • the likely next steps;

  • the proposed scope of our involvement; and

  • the cost before any work is undertaken.

There is no obligation to proceed simply because you have spoken to us.

Clear professional boundaries

Laver Accord provides independent support, advocacy, guidance and complaint-management assistance.

We do not provide legal advice and we do not act as solicitors.

Where a matter requires specialist legal, clinical, safeguarding or regulatory advice beyond our role, we will be clear about this and, where appropriate, help you understand what type of specialist support may be required.

We do not replace statutory advocacy services where an individual has a legal entitlement to that support, and we do not provide regulated personal care.

How support can be provided

Our support is flexible and can be provided in the way that best fits the situation.

This may include visiting a person in their current care setting to understand their circumstances first-hand, observe the environment and discuss concerns with them, their family and those involved in their care.

We can also review documentation remotely, including care plans, assessments, correspondence, complaint responses, meeting notes and other relevant records, helping to identify key issues, gaps in information and areas that may need further clarification.

Where appropriate, we can meet with care providers, managers, health and social care professionals, commissioners and family members, either in person or online. This can help bring together different perspectives, clarify responsibilities and support more constructive communication.

Support can include:

  • visiting someone in their current home or care setting;

  • meeting individuals and families face to face;

  • reviewing care records and other documentation remotely;

  • joining meetings with care providers or professionals online;

  • attending meetings in person where appropriate;

  • speaking with providers, managers and other organisations involved;

  • helping families prepare questions and key points before meetings;

  • supporting discussions about changes to care or alternative provision;

  • reviewing responses and helping identify what remains unresolved;

  • providing ongoing support over a period of time where a situation is complex.

In some cases, support may be limited to a single review or consultation. In others, Laver Accord may remain involved across several stages, from understanding the original concern through to meetings, follow-up actions and, where necessary, support with finding an alternative care arrangement.

The aim is to provide the right level of involvement for the situation rather than applying a fixed process to every client.
